You Will Be Missed, Dick Giordano
Last week we lost one hell of a comic book Legend. March 27th 2010 a little piece of history leaves us and sadly will never be regained. Dick Giordano graced us with the pages from DC comics Batman and Detective Comics.
Beginning as a freelance artist at Charlton Comics in 1952, Giordano rose to editor-in-chief by 1965. In the early part of 1968 Detective Comics hired Dick as an editor and brought his creator owned characters such as Bat Lash and Deadman to life with DC.
Dick was best known in the industry as an inker but after meeting him a number of times and talking with the man, I came to know him as a great story teller as well. He has so many being tales from being in the business as long as he had been. He would share with me the way comics have changed from the time he started up until now.
My fondest memory will always be the first time I met Dick and the excitement I had watching him do what he did best….Draw! He had a gift that is rare in the art world today. I tip my hat to a great man that will be missed greatly by me and the comic Industry.
Good Bye My Friend, we will see you soon.
